Against the Light
I really love the feeling in this photo; there's something calm and exciting at the same time. And I guess that's what I want out of life: to have an exciting life while still maintaining my peace of mind at all times.
This is a good example of how great photos taken against the light can be. One of the first rules that they teach you in photography class is that you're not supposed to take photos against the light, but I'm experimenting with breaking that rule big time right now. One friend commented that "sometimes you have to break the rules to create something beautiful". That's true not only in art, but in life as well.

I adore this photo taken in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I had never heard of this town but Jane Aldridge, one of my favourite style bloggers, goes there often and posts really amazing photos. So I'd really like to see it - and photograph it - myself one day. I've never been to Mexico.

Extensions of me
Love this painting because it has many elements I love: laptop, mobile phone and cat! These days I feel as if my phone and laptop are almost extensions of myself. How could one manage life without them anymore? And notice how the cat's tail is lovingly wrapped around the girl's leg.

Beach Life
I love this photo. I have always been fascinated by the idea of living outdoors. When we were kids, my brother and I sometimes slept in a tent in the backyard. And when I'm in India, I love for example doing the laundry outdoors: all you need is a tap, a bucket, a bar of soap and a clothesline - and a sunny day (and there's plenty of those in India). I really hope that someday I'll get to live outdoors for a longer period of time, probably in Asia or Africa.

Kitchen Challenge
My mom posted a photo of her old kitchen as part of a "kitchen challenge". Here is a photo of our old kitchen, when we were living in Iivisniemi, Espoo, Finland.
This was our first home together. We had lived for just a little while in my apartment, but it was somehow not the same: it was as if my (then) boyfriend was living in my home. But this was the first apartment that was truly ours. We also renovated it by ourselves and that always makes it feel more like one's own (even when rented).
This was also our last permanent home in Finland. After this, we were drifting a little bit because we were planning to leave Finland permanently. We have now done that and are happy to be living in the Czech Republic.

Lobby
The beautiful lobby of the Trident Hotel in Chennai. It's modern in exactly the right way: clean without being cold. I really like it. I was sick while we spent the weekend there and the staff was super-friendly and helpful. This was not the most expensive hotel we stayed at in India, but it was my favourite.
Chennai
The garden of the gorgeous Trident Hotel in Chennai, India. It looks divine, but in reality it was so hot and humid that the only place we felt comfortable in was the air-conditioned hotel room...or in the swimming pool. I ended up getting heat exhaustion in Chennai and had to take rehydration salts.

Turquoise
A close-up of the jewelry I was wearing on our trip to Opava on Sunday. See the previous post. I bought all of this silver and turquoise jewelry in India. I have a huge collection of jewelry made of silver and semi-precious stones. They're not very expensive in India so it was the perfect time to buy some.
Swarowski Heart
I was wearing my Swarowski chrystal heart today. We bought it in Munich during Oktoberfest when we got engaged. We tried to buy engagement rings there, but it wasn't possible because all the stores there said that we needed to order them and that it would take several weeks. So we ended up buying our engagement rings in Turku, Finland but this heart is our souvenir of that trip. I later bought matching Swarowski earrings in Prague.
Pink Marimekko
This is what I wore out to dinner tonight. We were celebrating the fact that it was such a lovely, hot evening (+34 C) and also my husband's name day. The dress is an old one I brought from Finland, it's by Marimekko and I got it on sale, probably at 50% off. Marimekko clothes are really expensive, so I don't know if I've ever bought them at full price.
Bright
Here's what I wore yesterday on our day trip to Opava, a cute little town that's less than 30 km from Ostrava. When the sun is bright, it inspires me to wear bright colours too. It was a very hot day, so this outfit was quite appropriate; it was around +35 C.

Lac Rose, Senegal

Pink Lake
No, this is not photoshopped to look pink, it's real. There's a pink lake (Lac Rose) in Senegal, Africa. I simply must go and see it with my own eyes.

Volcano
This is the only time I've visited an active volcano. You can't get too close or the fumes could kill you. There's a very pungent smell. This was one of the hottest days of my life, but luckily it was dry heat. My husband and I had hats and big bottles of water with us and were shocked that many of the tourists came without hats and with nothing to drink. One British man - who was as red as a lobster - looked like he was going to have a heart attack. This was taken on our honeymoon in 2008 on the Greek Island of Santorini.
Tiina
Our late cat Tiina has climbed our cherry tree. This was in Toronto, Canada, where I lived for 6 years. Tiina moved from Canada to Finland with us and lived for 19 years.

Honeymoon
Enjoying the setting sun on our honeymoon in Oia on the Greek island of Santorini. This was taken in June of 2008.

Photo taken some decades ago with a non-digital camera. I had previously scanned it and I now photo-edited it a bit. I used to live in this neighbourhood of Helsinki, Finland. The building in the background is the Design Museum, which I loved to visit.
Moon Stone
Another fave pair of earrings from India. These are not super high quality, so I don't know if the silver is even sterling. I believe that the stone is called Moon Stone. I love the design of these earrings; they look so very Indian.
Lapis Lazuli
A fave pair of earrings, which I bought for next-to-nothing in Jaisalmer, Rajastan, India. They are silver and lapis lazuli. I first heard of lapis lazuli as a teenager while reading a short story and ever since then, I've wanted to own some. Dreams do come true. I wear these all the time. They work very well with jeans. I also have a matching ring.
